Winamp 2.91 and all the previous 2.x versions typically ran at 1% or less playing back MPC with spectrum analyzer set to fire, with thin bands and a 70fps refresh. Something the winamp devs should go back and look at. ![]() I shaved about 20% load off my 1.3GHz Athlon by switching from spectrum analyzer or ociliscope to the off setting. It seems to be primarily the main window visualization that is so inefficient in the modern skin. Odd since task manager does not show much CPU usage. Quote I as well noticed 'full load hot' temps running winamp on a friend's system. I read a comment either here or in the APE forums that it was due to new API's for the ML that at the time were unreleased for passing tags to the ML (back after winamp3 came out with the first iteration of the ML), but seem to have been missed by the APE developers.Īnybody else know if the Monkeys have gotten on the ball and released a new winamp plugin that correctly passes tags to the ML? This was actually a big reason for me to switch to FLAC since I've abandoned playlists and am now exclusively using the ML. MPC works fine with the latest recommended plugin. APE files still don't work in the ML as far as I've seen with any of the released winamp plugins. Updating flac to the most recent distribution package that included the frontend, encoder, decoder and winamp plugin allowed winamp to read flac tags in the media library as well as in the playlist. ![]() Tag reading AFAICT is handled by the input plugin rather than winamp itself. But I guess that's why we have Foobar in the first place. I think it'd be nice if Nullsoft concentrated a wee bit more on useful things and a bit less on flash and dazzle. Since I use Foobar so much, I've really come to rely on both of those. The two greatest downers for Winamp are the lack of a real Replaygain system, and the lack of APEv2 tag reading. It's prettier than Foobar (that's not hard to pull off), but otherwise, Foobar's still my choice. * fixed gen_ml guessing bugs for files with metadata that are not in DB * made installer check sonic px.dll versions and prompt for reboot accordingly * made uninstaller not remove winamp directory if not empty (user is now required to do so manually to avoid people going "oops") * made installer better handle installing wa5 directly over wa3. ![]() * added seperate recent items tracking options for files/streams * made media library guess from filename only when NO metadata found * added bandwidth usage statistic in Internet Radio/TV listings * added content rating system in Internet TV's listing * improved font directory retrieval in gen_ff * made pro installer not prompt for regkey if already valid * made AVS support megabuf() in user code * made AVS and SPS support loop() in user code * added gen_ml option for no guessing at all
